Announcement: Bring Your Java Development Skills to Harvard University and Enjoy A Learning Environment


The Java Developer is part of the Environmental Health and Safety Group (EH&S). Working as part of a team, this individual will develop high quality accessible web-based applications using various coding languages, including Java, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, XHTML, and CSS in support of EH&S compliance programs.

The Java Developer will have the following primary responsibilities:

Understand WAI Priority Level 1 accessibility guidelines, and other accessibility and usability requirements that may have an impact on the development of web pages and applications.  

Work with EH&S personnel to develop web-based applications according to departmental expectations. 

Collaborate and communicate effectively with project managers, designers, and programmers.

Work closely with the Applied Technologies Application Specialist, EH&S Support Specialist and other team members to research and develop  new technological solutions.

Work with the EH&S Radiation Protection group to understand and support the Focus database application.

We seek an individual with 2-3 years experience developing/maintaining web-based applications using Java, JavaScript, JSP,HTML,XHTML and CSS. Working knowledge of Perl, CGI, Oracle, MY SQL and database design. Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and Calendaring, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Van Dyke SecureFX, Van Dyke SecureCRT required.  Must have strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, and be extremely responsive.BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent. 

Experience with Struts, BEA WebLogic Server, Adobe Creative Suite preferred.  Knowledge & understanding of EH&S compliance programs, including but not limited to safety, industrial hygiene, radiation protection, and environmental compliance a plus.  Must be a self motivated, creative professional who is able to interact effectively at many levels with different constituencies. Knowledge  of Red Hat Linux a plus.
